The location and composition of assets are not restricted, only need to prove continuous ownership of this amount of net assets within 6 months before application.

2. Investment Requirements: Applicants need to invest no less than HK$30 million in designated asset categories within 6 months before or after approval. Of this, HK$27 million can be invested in financial assets such as stocks and bonds of Hong Kong listed companies. The remaining HK$3 million must be invested in a special investment portfolio established by Hong Kong Investment Management Limited.

3. Renewal and Maintenance: After obtaining a 2-year stay visa, applicants need to provide an asset verification report annually to prove that the total investment amount is still not less than HK$30 million.

It is worth noting that the participation of cryptocurrencies this time is mainly reflected in the initial asset verification stage. Mainstream cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are recognized as valid assets. However, when using cryptocurrencies as proof of assets, the biggest challenge lies in proving the legitimacy of the source of funds. Applicants need to provide the original source of funds for purchasing cryptocurrencies and transaction records, which may be a challenge for many long-term holders.

In comparison, places like Singapore, Australia, and even Dubai may be more attractive.

Nevertheless, Hong Kong's development strategy in the Web3 field is not simply pursuing market share, but trying to build a new decentralized financial system on the basis of traditional finance. Through measures such as regulating virtual asset trading platforms, developing stablecoins and tokenization of real-world assets (RWA), Hong Kong is striving to fill the gap in the virtual asset field while maintaining its position as a traditional financial center.
