Odaily Planet Daily reports that Hong Kong Legislative Council member Wu Jiezhuang stated on the “Finance Chat” program that Hong Kong is expected to issue the first stablecoin issuer licenses in March. He suggested that after relevant institutions obtain licenses, the government could distribute stablecoin-based consumption vouchers to eligible citizens for use in local small and medium-sized enterprises, to promote the application of stablecoins in Hong Kong.

Wu Jiezhuang pointed out that this approach can draw on the previous experience of electronic consumption vouchers promoting electronic payments, using stablecoin usage scenarios to boost the local economy and enhance Hong Kong’s development positioning in Web3 and digital assets. He also mentioned that the related administrative costs could be borne by the licensed institutions. (Techub News)
