Rex Shares and Osprey Funds filed a registration statement and an effective prospectus with the US SEC last week to launch the Rex-Osprey DOGE ETF, under the ticker $DOJE

Notably, the product would not be a spot exchange-traded fund, which requires 19b-4 and S-1 approvals and follows a commodity-based grantor trust structure

Instead, DOJE will be structured as an open-end ETF registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Such funds are regulated investment vehicles that can create and redeem shares on a daily basis, typically providing exposure through both derivatives and spot positions rather than just directly holding the asset.

As per its latest prospectus, the Dogecoin ETF will allocate at least 80% of its portfolio to DOGE exposure via direct holdings, derivatives like futures and swaps, or up to 25% exposure through a Cayman Islands subsidiary, while parking the remaining 20% in cash, Treasuries, and other liquid instruments for collateral and liquidity management.

Notably, a Dogecoin ETF could prove to be a strong bullish catalyst for the meme coin’s price, even more than its Solana counterpart. While mainstream and institutional investors consider SOL as an inferior alternative to Bitcoin and Ethereum, Dogecoin has its own brand value, thanks to its reputation as a multibillion-dollar joke currency and Elon Musk’s public support
