A year ago, when Ordinals was in its infancy, I went to Hong Kong and wrote an article.
Over the past week, Bitcoin Asia, Ordinals Asia, and various Bitcoin-related side events have been in full swing in Hong Kong, which can be called Asia's "Bitcoin Week".
At the Ordinals Asia event on May 11, Ordinals protocol founder Casey Rodarmor made a solo finale with a speech of about 15 minutes. In this laugh-filled talk, all Ordinals enthusiasts got up close and personal with Casey and what he had to say.

TL; DR
▣ Bitcoin is the strongest Crypto Assets, long other chains outside the Bitcoin or protocol are rich, but very fragile.
▣ Developing on Bitcoin, developers need to adapt their ideas to Bitcoin, rather than letting the chain adapt to your ideas like developing on other on-chains.
▣Ordinals, inscription, and runes were a big success because they were "simple" enough, and some protocol like Taproot Assets and RGB that continued to build for long years were good, but too complicated.
▣ Don't think of Ordinals, inscriptions and rune ecology as a tall technological ecology, being honest and tolerant of yourself, it is also very meaningful to bring a more interesting and decentralization social, gaming and entertainment ecology to degens.
▣ Continue to build a social, gaming and entertainment ecosystem, with the ultimate goal of attracting more long people to understand the value and significance of Bitcoin, use Bitcoin, and think about Bitcoin.
▣Ordinals has always been for everyone, future updates will be driven by all builders, all ideas and discussions can be seen on GitHub, and work openly and transparently without being arbitrary.
Hell Money
"Dead Money"
"Hell Money" is actually the name of the podcast that Erin and I started about 2 years ago.
"Hell Money" is a quirky name, and I don't think most people know what it means. In fact, "Hell Money" is a paraphrase of the Chinese word "Hell Money". "Hades banknote" is a paper coin that looks like this:
When Casey released the picture, the Chinese in attendance were delighted
If you're a Chinese, I think you know what it is. If you're not, but you live in a Chinese quarter, you may remember when you were a kid and when you first went to a Chinese restaurant, you would see a small orange or red altar dedicated to ancestors in a corner, with oranges and incense sticks burning. Another way for the Chinese to worship their ancestors is the "dead money", which is actually a coin for the ancestors who have already entered the earth.
The first time I saw "Dead Money" was when I was a child, and if I remember correctly, it was in San Francisco's Chinatown. It's like a mysterious and strange cultural product from another world. Going back to why we named the podcast "Dead Money", it has two meanings.
First of all, fiat money is "Hades banknotes". fiat are "demonic coin" and have been issuance so much that they only deserve to be burned like "Underworld Money". Another meaning is that Bitcoin is also "Hades money", but unlike fiat currency, Bitcoin is so robust and powerful, from the living to the deceased and even gods, you can appreciate its charm.
Resistance and the long game
"Resistance, a long-term contest"
Why build on Bitcoin? It's about resistance, a long fight. When I first got involved in Bitcoin in 2013, I felt that Bitcoin would be terminated in a very short period of time, because at any time the authorities could step in and try to destroy Bitcoin, and there were two such examples before Bitcoin, one was Liberty Reverse and the other was e-gold. Over the past 11 years, Bitcoin has faced surprisingly little government resistance, and even China and the United States have not formed a real attack on Bitcoin or even the entire Crypto Assets.
However, we need to keep in mind that there is a threat from the government to Bitcoin. Although the situation is still relatively good, and the government is only "mildly unhappy", no one can guarantee what will happen in the future. That's why I'm building on Bitcoin – if governments really want to attack Crypto Assets, Bitcoin is the only technology and platform that can defend against it.
Outside of Bitcoin, there are long other chains or protocol, they are very rich, they have a lot of long money, they have a lot of money, but this is also their only advantage. In addition to this, they are complex, extremely centralized, and very fragile. When that future, which could deteriorate at any time, does come, they will be destroyed or collapsed, or worse, reduced to a tool of regulation and censorship.
Some suggestions for Bitcoin builders
"** Some advice for Bitcoin builders****
Keep it simple** "Make it easy"**
I have some advice for Bitcoin and builders outside of Bitcoin, the most important one being to "make it easy". I recently spoke with a fren I've known for maybe 20 years and found out what the best developers we know have in common, and the conclusion is that they make their creations simple and practical. Complexity is always maddening, and it always makes things difficult. On Ordinals and Runes, while there are some unavoidable complications, we also try to keep them as simple as possible.
Adapt ideas to Bitcoin not the other way around "Adapt ideas to Bitcoin, not Bitcoin to you"
There's one problem that can make building on Bitcoin very difficult. When you're building on other on-chains other than Bitcoin, you might have a top-level idea about what you want to do, and then those chains passively match your idea. But on Bitcoin, your thinking needs to be reversed and adapted to Bitcoin. Rather than directly doing a very detailed design to plan what you want to achieve, it is more appropriate that you have a goal to realize the idea, and then remind yourself to make the design fit with Bitcoin. Bitcoin won't adapt to you like other chains, you need to adapt to Bitcoin yourself.
The stupidest thing could possibly work
Why are Ordinals, inscriptions and runes so successful? I think the answer is that they are the simplest and most feasible ideas. Before I launched the inscription, there were a few projects that had already taken a huge lead, two of which were Taproot Assets and RGB. I have a lot of respect for these two projects, they are very Satoshi and have been building for a long time, and I used to think they might beat the Ordinals. But they make everything too complicated and haven't been adopted on a large scale so far. Taproot Assets announced something before the rune was officially launched, but months passed without much progress, and months later, the "silly" rune came and gained huge adoption and enthusiasm. The biggest inspiration for me is that "silly" things can succeed, but complex things can't work.
It's not tech
"Don't think of Ordinals as technology"
Don't think of Ordinals, inscriptions, and rune ecology as a technological ecology. Admittedly, it would be very tempting if we saw it as a kind of finance of the future, such as a bank to be Africa's fren, or a revolutionary financial market, and I would be happy if one day these lofty narratives did become reality. But the reality today is that Ordinals, inscriptions, and runes are a powerful technique for socializing, gambling, and entertainment. If we look at Ordinals from this perspective, you'll be more honest with yourself and the people you're committed to serving, and you won't feel like you're compromising on some of your idealisms or principles for the sake of success. If it's a casino that's more transparent, more decentralized, and has a lower dealer edge than Las Vegas, all Degens can be happy here, and I think that's also very good.
I think the real gaming capital of the world is Macau? So will there be something like inscriptions, runes and the like in Macau? I don't know haha.
For each of us, it is honest and practical to look at the construction of Ordinals, inscriptions and runes in a way that creates social, gaming and entertainment products. We don't need to hide anything to make your users experience the fairest and most interesting product. It's like an "interstellar casino", like the experience of going from a portal to the future or to a shorter station like in science fiction, but it is longer more interesting than science fiction - decentralization, everywhere, and in our hearts.
All in your hands
"The Ordinals are yours
It's all yours.
As the developer of this protocol, all I can do is come up with my ideas and get people to build together, not dictatory. For future updates on Ordinals, inscriptions, and runes, you can see our thoughts and discussions on GitHub. When I have a new idea, I'll post an issue on GitHub, and we'll be working openly and transparently, and future major updates will be driven by all of you here and not here today - all of us at Ordinals. So, GitHub is Alpha.
No coin is better suited to the "Star Casino" of Ordinals, inscriptions and runes than Bitcoin. And the ultimate goal of my continuous construction of this "interstellar casino" is to let more long people understand the value and meaning of Bitcoin, use Bitcoin, and think about Bitcoin through it, so that more long people can embrace this most solid coin that can constantly resist the resistance of reality.
I hope to see everyone's continuous innovation and construction, thank you.
