An error in the Reth client disrupted the synchronization of Ethereum nodes.
On September 2, there was a failure in the execution layer Ethereum client Reth from Paradigm. The incident was confirmed by the company's CTO Georgios Konstantopoulos.
A bug caused the synchronization of nodes using this software to stop at block 2,327,426 and affected versions 1.6.0 and 1.4.8.
Constantopoulos shared a set of commands for node recovery. However, the development team is still investigating the root cause of the issue.
Reth processes transactions and updates the state of the blockchain. The state root, which encountered an error during calculation, ensures data integrity — account balances and smart contract information.
The client's share among validators is 5.4%. The leader is Geth, which accounts for 48%.
Recall that at the end of August, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed new ways to protect the decentralization of the network.
