Meta signs a 20-year nuclear protocol to support its AI business

Gate News bot message, Meta has signed a protocol to maintain the operation of a nuclear power plant in Illinois for the next 20 years to support its artificial intelligence and data center development.

According to the protocol, the company will start purchasing 1.1 gigawatts of electricity from the nuclear power supplier Constellation's Clinton Clean Energy Center located in southern Illinois starting in 2027.

Meta added: "Looking ahead to the energy demands of artificial intelligence, we recognize the tremendous value of nuclear energy in providing reliable and stable power." The protocol ensures the "continuous operation of key power plants," meeting the growing energy demand while adding 30 megawatts of incremental capacity to the grid.
