The auction of Ross Ulbricht's personal belongings raised over 1.8 million US Dollars in Bitcoin through the cryptocurrency market "Scars City." The founder of "Silk Road," who received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in January 2025, sold items dating back to before his arrest and his 11-year prison sentence. The auction included personal belongings from before his arrest in 2013, including a sleeping bag, a backpack, and a drum, as well as prison memorabilia such as clothing, notebooks, and paintings he created during his time in prison.
The last prison ID card of Ulbricht fetched the highest price, reaching 11 Bitcoin, which is equivalent to around 1.1 million US Dollars at current exchange rates. The card showed Ulbricht smiling despite his circumstances, and the seller commented that his joy comes from within. He received 1.01 Bitcoin from a collaborative artwork he painted with his fellow inmate "Omega", which is a piece of art symbolizing hope for better conditions in the future.
