The White House reallocates media resources, and three major news agencies join forces to oppose.
On February 27, Jinshi Data News, the White House appointed the first batch of media for the new media access system. Under this system, the White House will select who can report President Trump on certain occasions instead of the White House Correspondents' Association, thereby limiting the role of the three major news agencies traditionally responsible for global presidential news (AP, Reuters, and Bloomberg). In the seats originally allocated to AP and Reuters, the White House on Wednesday added Newsmax and Blaze Media to the so-called "White House Press Corps." In addition, the Trump administration did not invite HuffPost (the next rotating print media) and instead invited Axios as the print representative. According to the White House's schedule, Bloomberg was selected as the first day's news agency under the new rotation system. Traditionally, AP, Reuters, and Bloomberg are included every day. The White House did not specify how the selection would be made in the future. The editors of the three news organizations—Julie Pace of AP, Alessandra Galloni of Reuters, and John Micklethwait of Bloomberg—issued a joint statement on Wednesday opposing this decision.
