[New Zealand FMA launches tokenization consultation to explore regulatory barriers] The New Zealand Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has initiated a tokenization consultation until the end of October, aiming to clarify whether current regulations hinder the development of tokenization — this year, the agency has received a large number of tokenization inquiries, but few projects have been implemented. It pointed out that tokenization is currently leaning towards regulated entities, and startups may prefer to operate outside regulation due to high licensing costs and barriers, which weakens consumer protection. Globally, some startups have turned to overseas markets with lower regulation for this reason.
